The girl’s basketball team is coached by Taylor Clay, and he’s in his third year coaching girl’s basketball at Goodpasture.
The team is ranked first in their district with a district record of 10-1 and is working hard to secure a spot in the state tournaments.
”I’m excited to see what our team can accomplish this year!” senior Addi Ruffin said.
Recently, the Lady Cougars won 60 to 45 against Clarksville Academy on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at home.
The team is looking forward to their next game on Friday, Jan 31. at Mount Juliet Christian Academy. The varsity girls’ game starts at 6 p.m.
Practices started on Nov. 4 and the team hasn’t stopped since. The practices are weekly and they train intensely to prepare for the next game and improve on their weaknesses.
“We focus on setting goals rather than setting expectations so we can focus on the present more than the future,” Coach Clay said about the practices.
The girls say they appreciate the way they are pushed to be the best version of themselves.
“I love hard how intense the practices are,” sophomore Brooklyn Jones said. Jones is one of the team’s point guards.
The following girls are on the team’s roster: seniors Harper Kate Miles, Addi Ruffin, Ona Hawkins, Kelis Greer, and Madi Crocker; junior Ava Hayes; sophomores Brooklyn Jones, Presley Cavender, E’nyia McGinister; freshman Ally Myers, Adaya Dedmon, DeAja Marshall, Brooklyn Garcia, Autumn Harris, and Jamiyah Marshall.
He describes the team as selfless, and encouraging; furthermore, Clay reports that they have a positive impact on each other.
