The wrestling team ended their regularly season on Thursday, Jan. 30 with a record of 3-26, but will be wrestling at Regionals in Memphis on Saturday, Feb. 8.
Coached by Enoch Hill, the wrestling team is a newer program, and they didn’t have enough wrestlers to fill each weight class, this affected their ability to win their tournaments, but some of the wrestlers turned in great seasons.
The most outstanding wrestlers this season were junior Landon McConnell (41-9), senior Issac Murphy (13-4), freshman Cameron McGaughy (21-19), and senior Grant Sircy (12-12).
“Every experience is something to learn from, good or bad, all you can do is use what you learn to improve,” McGaughy said.
Coach Hill seems to agree.
“I want all the kids to have a hardworking mentality,” Coach Hill said as he looked to the Regional competition and beyond.
Going into next year, the Cougars with have a very young team. There will be around 25 on the team next year, and out of those 25, 17 will be sophomores and younger.
Up-and-coming wrestlers on the middle school team are eighth graders Taeson Chang, Wyatt Hayden, and Luke Deming. All were placed in the top three of their weight classes.
