Sophomore Morgan O’Brien has made waves at this year’s Swim state championships.
O’Brien started swimming when she was two years old. When she was eight, she joined the Middle Tennessee Swim Club (MTSC) and continues to swim there today. She also joined Goodpasture in the sixth grade and has been swimming with the Cougars ever since.
This past weekend, O’Brien competed in the state tournament at the University of Tennessee in the 50 and 100 freestyle. She qualified for these strokes, along with the 200 freestyle, 200 IM, and 100 backstroke.
O’Brien achieved personal best times for both of her swimming strokes, which made her eligible to swim at the Southeast Regional meet on February 15-16. There, she will compete for a spot in the Southeastern Championships.
O’Brien has not officially decided what she will do after high school, but the future is bright for her.
“I haven’t really made a college decision yet, but I am looking at either UF [University of Florida] or UTK [ University of Tennessee Knoxville],” O’Brien said.
