Baseball season is now in full swing.
“We’re all super excited,” junior Parker Bowman said. “We’re ready to win, go to tournaments, everything.”
Their first games started on March 4, and the last regular-season game will be April 22.
This year the baseball players sport blue shirts with the phrase “RTRN” on the back. RTRN means right thing, right now, junior Jake Collier said.
“We must do everything to the level that the program requires and has been set, including how we act in the classroom and on and off the field,” senior Tyler Cross said. “It doesn’t mean that we will be perfect, but we can try our best.”
Three Goodpasture Cougars have committed to colleges for baseball. Luke Vierkant and Rylan Moses are committed to Trevecca University, and Tyler Cross is committed to Freed-Hardeman University.
“The guys are working hard right now and committed to improvement moving forward,” Coach Jim Carter said. “We are striving to manage our successes and failures and be the best versions of ourselves.”
Over spring break the Cougars traveled to Gulf Shores, facing Soddy Daisy and winning 1-0, Prattville Christian Academy losing 2-5, and Pryor, Oklahoma winning 6-2. Their final tournament game had them beating Bayside Academy from Alabama 4-3.
“I’m so excited to play for this team again,” Bowman said. “This team is like family.”
In the 23-24 season, the Cougars were 3rd in the district and went 32-13-1. This year they strive for first.
