Disney’s latest live-action movie, Snow White (2025) tells the story of Snow White’s life using beautiful graphics, new music, and humorous themes.
This version of Snow White tells the story of the young girl as she flees from the grasp of her stepmother, the Evil Queen. The Queen views Snow White as a threat to her beauty and power.
Along the way, she becomes friends with several dwarves and a rebel named Jonathan. Snow White realizes that her people have been suffering from the Evil Queen’s oppression, making her determined to save them.
Because the Evil Queen attempts to track her down, Snow White undergoes a dangerous game of survival. Luckily, she and her friends help restore peace and love to the kingdom, taking back what was once lost.
Rachel Ziegler, who plays Snow White in the film, brings powerful and beautiful singing to the movie, turning Snow White’s usually soft singing tones into a more confident, outstanding aspect of the movie, although I don’t think it needed the change. She nailed the iconic song “Whistle While You Work.” Additionally, the new song “Waiting on a Wish, was powerful and emotional. Rachel Ziegler’s vocals in the movie were amazing, and she was dedicated to her musical role in the movie.
However, the liberties the producers take to catch the readers’ attention are pretty controversial. In this adaptation of Snow White, they focus more on feminism than on the basic concept of the Prince saving the Princess, as expected from the story. They spread the message that a girl doesn’t need a man to save her, and also express female empowerment and hope.
I think it wasn’t smart to feminize the storyline because it changed the whole plot and course of the movie. People are looking for the original movie brought to life, as well as the idea that this innocent and delicate princess did need a prince because of how soft and delicate the original Snow White was.
Overall, the movie was amazing in itself. From the CGI and graphics to the dwarfs, and the animals, this live-action movie was produced beautifully. I just think that they should have kept the original version because there is a time and a place for the modernization of old movies and stories, especially if the story doesn’t need it.
