On April 25, Goodpasture welcomed Holden Mobley as the new varsity basketball coach for the 25-26 school year.
Mobley has quite the impressive resume from his law degree to his basketball career.
“I have used my law degree for two years as an attorney, but I felt my heart was pulling me toward basketball, and whenever you wake up in the morning and love what your job is, then I feel like that’s the right move,” Coach Mobley said.
To start, Mobley was an outstanding basketball player at Montgomery Bell Academy under Coach Kevin Anglin. Furthermore, Mobley was a highly productive performer who led MBA to a 56-24 record in three seasons, including a 24-5 as a senior, and he was named the 2010 DII-AA State Tournament MVP in leading Big Red to the State Championship over Memphis Christian Brothers. He was also a 2010 Tennessee Mr. Basketball Finalist and the first school honoree in history.
“One of the things that made me want to come to Goodpasture was the strong history this school holds, and I am excited to use this opportunity to serve and help add value to the basketball team,” Coach Mobley said.
Mobley went on to play College basketball at Belmont University under Coach Rick Byrd. He had a successful career and was Academic Ohio Valley All-Conference/Dean’s List for Academic Excellence for four years. He also served as Co-Captain on the 2014-2015 team.
“I’m excited to build a culture and idea for the basketball brand here at Goodpasture,” Mobley said.
Moreover, Mobley received the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honor Court Award for 2013-2014 and graduated cum laude in May 2015. He also graduated from the University of Kentucky, College of Law, J.D. in May 2018.
“I am looking forward to building strong, authentic relationships with the boys, and playing basketball with honor,” Mobley said.
Mobley was an Assistant Boys’ Basketball coach at Montgomery Bell Academy for three years. He has served the last two years as the Lead Assistant on the Varsity Boys’ Basketball Staff at Ensworth High School.
Mobley also coaches in the Stars Basketball Club in Franklin, Tennessee.
