Every year, Goodpasture Christian School hosts its annual college fair to enlighten students about the different post-graduation options and learn about what test scores, tuition, and deadlines look like for each college and university.
This year, 59 colleges and universities set up booths in Goodpasture’s high school gym and spoke to sophomores, juniors, and seniors about the school they represented.
“I talked to Texas A&M, Bethel University, and Maryville College,” junior Maddie Friedburg said.
Many SEC schools participated in the college fair like Texas A&M University, the University of Mississippi, and the University of Tennessee. Tennessee sent students home with a booklet about what the average student admitted to Tennessee’s undergraduate programs looks like academically and many other schools sent students home with stickers, pens, candy, and similar booklets to Tennessee.
“I got pens, stickers, and a bunch of brochures,” senior Ava Hayes said. “Last year I got a sweatshirt which was cool.”
Many high schools host college fairs, and a few colleges that came to Goodpasture even noted being at multiple other high schools before they set up at GCS. Despite being at other high schools prior, colleges were organized and ready and Goodpasture was too.
Students were given stickers with their names and contact information to easily fill out the interest forms allowing colleges to contact them. Many admissions officers noted that no other schools did that and it made the process much easier. Freshmen were recruited as well to help make the fair go as smoothly as possible by handing out bags for the goodies given out and holding doors open.
“The college fair was organized and I knew where to go and what to do,” junior Hite Hager said.
Colleges that came to the fair ranged from 15 minutes away, the Belonging Co. College, to 12 hours away, Texas A&M. The variety of distances allowed exciting options for everyone.
“I left the college fair feeling so much more prepared for college applications,” senior Andrea Solomon said. “I’m excited to see where I’ll end up at this time next year.”
