It started with a simple question, “’Why do some kids go hungry?”
This question led the Goodpasture Beta Club members to take action, which was by going to Second Harvest Food Bank to sort through and pack boxes of frozen food.
Beta club members went to Second Harvest on Nov. 13 and 14.
“I signed up for this because I like to help people, and also for the points,” sophomore Phoebe Spencer said.
The Beta club members that went worked in a freezer for two and a half hours sorting, inspecting, and packing food.
It was a great way for students to connect with each other and also be involved in the community.
“I think by people going to Second Harvest, it lets us see how many people are in need of food,” senior Sophia Moser said.
The mission of a Second Harvest food bank is to nourish lives through a hunger relief network, create hope, and multiply community generosity.
“We’ve already had a good relationship with the company, and it’s a great opportunity to help serve the people of our community,” senior Hannah Billingsley, Beta Club Vice President, said.
Goodpasture had a combined total of approximately 9,000 pounds of food sorted through.
“I went because I love being able to help people and serve people in need,” senior Claire Marshall said.
Second Harvest had a great turnout, not only for the club members, but also the people that they helped.
“We hope to return before we end our current Beta season,” Beta Club Sponsor Ms.Toliver said.
