With thirty wrestlers on the team, the wrestling team is looking to be active this year.
“Win the Region, Make it to state.” These are head coach Enoch Hill’s goals for the upcoming season.
First year assistant coach Josh Dodd has a different goal for the wrestlers this season.
“Everbody to be the best wrestler they can be,” Coach Dodd said.
The wrestlers have also set goals for themselves.
“To place in Regionals and wrestle in State tournaments,” sophomore Cameron McGaughy said.
On the other hand, junior Lucas McAuley has a different goal for the season.
“I want to have a better season than last year since last year was my first year wrestling,” McAuley said.
Many wrestlers are going to prepare for matches differently this year compared to last year.
“Breathe in, not focus on who I’m wrestling, but how I’m wrestling,” McGaughy said.
On the other hand, McAuley plans to have a different approach to wrestling compared to McGaughy this season.
“This year I’m focusing more on my technique and being more aggressive compared to my more reactive approach last year,” McAuley said for his approach.
With the offseason in the past now, players are ready to put their training to use.
“Hard work, studying, and improving,” McGaughy said about his offseason
McAuley similarly described his offseason the same as McGaughy.
“Workouts, productive, growth,” McAuley said.
Coach Hill similarly described the offseason to the wrestlers.
“Consistant, hard working,” Coach Hill said.
Some of the key matchups this year are on Dec. 19, a quad match against Evangelical Christian School, Alcoa, and St. George Independent School; also a quad match on Jan. 15 against Battleground Academy, Franklin Road Academy, and Brentwood Academy.
