Powderpuff is an annual exciting football game where girls and guys get to switch roles. This year’s game was played on Friday, Nov. 1 on the football field.
Powderpuff can be described as a 7v7 football game played much like flag football. The difference is that Powderpuff is only played by girls. This can make for an even more eventful event than a regular football game.
Girls are not the only ones who participated in this event. Guys had the opportunity to be coaches or cheerleaders. The cheerleaders were taught cheers that they performed on the sidelines.
Each grade wore its class t-shirt as its jersey, so you could spot the different teams on the field.
Junior Campbell Crockett who has played for the last three years said her favorite part of powderpuff is the competitiveness.
“If anything could improve it would be I wish we had a few more practices,” Crockett said.
Likewise, junior Faith Ivy said, “My favorite part of powderpuff is that we get to get out of class and do a fun activity together.” Ivy predicted that the Class of 2025 would win again after taking first place two years in a row already. She was correct in her assumptions. The senior class won for the third time in their high school career.
Coach Ayer recalled an eventful powderpuff that happened in 2005. He describes it saying, “there were real punches being thrown.”
A fight had broken out between a few girls over a boy. A powderpuff game was not able to be held for three years.
Junior Kate Stephens summed up Powderpuff.
“Powderpuff is a great way to show unity among each grade while also having fun,” she said.
