The Goodpasture varsity boys basketball team began the season on Nov. 19 by defeating the Lipscomb Mustangs 87-75.
TSU commit Jayden Jones had an impressive game with 21 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and two blocks.
Senior King Keary also made an impact by scoring 17 points with five assists and four steals.
Rhett Broussard and Joshua Huggins each added 13 points to the final score.
Before the first game, the varsity players gave their jerseys to a staff member as a way to show admiration and gain support for the team.
Senior Daniel Whitman gave his jersey to Nurse Jamey Farrar, and sophomore Brandon Leavell gave his to English teacher Jo Ellen Sholl.
“She’s a great teacher,” Leavell said about Mrs. Sholl. “She supports me.”
Freshman Aemero Lewis gave his shirt to his middle school English teacher, Mrs. Flo Kuykendall.
“She’s nice, a good teacher, and makes class fun,” Lewis said.
Following the game against Lipscomb, the Cougars defeated CPA by a score of 66 to 44.
The Cougars also played the Tennessee Heat on Dec. 3, defeating them 76 to 62.
The Cougars will play Lipscomb again on Friday, Dec. 6 at Lipscomb, Friendship Christian on December 10 at FCHS, and Davidson Academy on Dec. 13 at home.
