The Goodpasture Dance Team has finally arrived.
This is the first time Goodpasture Christian School has ever had a dance team.
Dance team tryouts were from March 10 through March 12, and the results for the varsity dance team were announced on March 20.
The varsity team includes Kate Stephens, Rachel Denman, Madelyn Barrett, Kylie Barrett, Livia Carroll, Adeline Blackburn, Madison Duke, Hallie Walker, Eleanora Donehey, Giuliana Shaw, Reagan Bewley, and Brewer Pilkington.
The dancers will perform at football games, basketball games, pep rallies, and any other community events.
The dance team will also be an athletic class during the day, and it will count as a PE credit.
The head coaches of the dance team are Kristin Duke and Mary Kathryn Oliver.
“Dance team tryouts were amazing and fun for everyone. I can’t wait to see what this team will bring us,” freshman Kylie Barrett said.
The girls were given three days to learn and perform one routine that included hip-hop, jazz, and pom.
Dancers were asked to show a toe touch, both left and right kicks, leaps, a double turn, and any other amazing skills they would like to display.
The dancers were scored by their overall spirit, high kicks, toe touch, turns, leaps, tricks, choreo, performance, and overall performance.
“I am so excited to bring back the Goodpasture dance team,” Mrs. Duke said. “This team will bring so much to our campus. The Varsity dance team will perform at all home football and basketball games as well as all pep rallies. We also plan to compete in two competitions this year! We look forward to competing at the Bluegrass Regional Dance Competition on Nov. 16 and the Magic City Regional Dance Competition on Jan. 24. We will most likely enter in the categories of hip hop and game day.”.
Mrs. Duke adds that the Goodpasture dance team is not just about skills and performance—it’s about teamwork, growth, and representing Goodpasture Christian School with Cougar Pride!
“We have a wonderful group of 12 talented dancers on the varsity team and 16 on the Junior team,” Mrs. Duke said. “Myself, along with coach Mary Kathryn Oliver, can’t wait to watch these teams grow and flourish in the coming season!”
